“Common Ground, New York” Celebrates Cultural Diversity
on the Fourth Anniversary of the September 11 Terrorist Attacks

New York artist Anthony Fatato opened his first international exhibition at Auberge Moar Alm, in Sachsenkam (near Bad Toelz), yesterday on September 11, 2005. The show, “Common Ground, New York,” was well received by nearly one hundred guests, who enjoyed a four-course Sunday brunch provided by the restaurant’s proprietor, Ms. Christine Robert.

On display until December 1, the exhibition is comprised of fifteen paintings and twenty-four prints. The centerpiece of the collection is a series of prints evoking the World Trade Center attacks. Fatato has composited over seven years’ worth of his sketches of New Yorkers into a five-panel illustration of the actual event. Helen Miklautz, a local art collector, says, “Anthony’s artworks took my breath away”. Of the World Trade Center montage, she told the artist “this piece brings the people to the front of this tragedy. Most images I’ve seen have concentrated on the falling structures, but this piece reminds me of the people, and how their different lives, families, cultures and emotions collided on that day. It’s a tragedy when we emphasize our differences with fear and aggression, and it’s refreshing to be here today, celebrating diversity.”

Significant for Mr. Fatato was the successful sale of the first piece on the opening day of his show. The sold painting, titled “Lake Champlain”, is a small landscape painted on the New York – Vermont boarder. It will remain on display at the restaurant for the duration of the exhibition.

The brunch buffet was preceded by a brief introduction from “Common Ground, New York’s” producer/director, James Burger. Immediately following the introduction, Mr. Fatato explained some of the show’s meaning with a brief speech that brought both tears and applause from the audience.

Ms. Robert, soon to be seen on TV in ARD’s show Abenteuer 1927 Sommerfrische (Summer Resort Adventure 1927), created a brunch to be remembered, including a special rendition of eggs benedict at the artist’s request.

All of the works hanging at Auberge Moar Alm (Holzkirchner Strasse 14, Sachsenkam) are available for viewing and for purchase online.

The exhibition is available for viewing during the restaurant’s opening hours:
Monday after 6PM; Wednesday through Friday from 12 noon to 2 PM and from 6 PM to midnight; Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 12 noon to midnight: Tuesdays closed.
